Well after basically shelving modelling for over two years, I'm beginning to make a start on the Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk.XIV "G-FIRE". The kit is typically Airfix, well proportioned, soft plastic, a little heavy on the panel lines, but overall I think pretty good. I bought a bit of AM merch for it - CMK cockpit, Eduard etch cockpit detail, resin exhausts and wheels just to jazz it up a little.
I ended up deciding to use the Airfix cockpit as it just looked too much work to fit the CMK cockpit. I did use the CMK seat and will use other part from that cockpit set.
G-FIRE has been civilianised and there are limited photos of the full cockpit. There's some good discussion over at Britmodeller on G-FIRE so the mod's will include (or not include):
No seat armour plate, but keep the head rest armour plate.
No master compass - that large horizontal one that's normally attached to the instrument panel.
Seat pan will be the browny/red resin/paper of the later mark Spitys.
Cockpit will be all black-yep all black - except for the browny red seat pan.
So this is where I am so far.
